Tai Chi Classes

Tai Chi with Jos Hadfield

Tai chi opens our channels of energy, softening the body, freeing the mind and letting it breathe. Exploring the interplay of yin and yang, we can feel for tightness and softness, let go unnecessary effort and reveal inner spaciousness and harmony. It is a great way to find a sense of balance and offers the means to tap into immense reserves of energy. Promoting a sense of wellbeing, tai chi works with the rhythms and harmonies that underpin our being in the world.

Gong Bath Meditation with Ali Gunning

An immersive journey through sacred sound, with gongs, himalayan bowls, crystal singing bowls, conch shell, elemental instruments, shruti box, voice and more. Ali invites you to set an intention and surrender into an ocean of healing vibrations and frequencies. The sound moves you quickly into a theta wave state of deep relaxation, meditation or transformation. All are welcome, please speak to Ali beforehand if you are pregnant or have any health concerns. Please wear warm, comfy layers and bring: a yoga mat (we have a few spare so if you don’t have one just ask!), a blanket, a small cushion for your head, a scarf to shade your eyes & drinking water.

Our classes cater for beginners, intermediates, pre-natal and remedial. We have Anusara, Ashtanga, Atha, Biodynamic, Iyengar and Vinyasa Yoga, all taught by a group of extremely experienced and popular teachers. Alison Trewhela - Yoga Classes

Alison has taught yoga according to the Iyengar method for over 30 years and has loved teaching at The ZedShed since its beginnings. She puts her considerable experience, knowledge and passion for yoga into these refreshing and in-depth classes that emphasize mindfulness-based movement and postures with optimum alignment and stability for maximum benefit. Enjoyable fitness programme for body, mind and spirit.

No need to book - just drop in and prepare to start your week happily. These general yoga classes are suitable for anyone to attend regularly or occasionally, although more appropriate for those with some prior knowledge of yoga practice.

Amanda Brown - Biodynamic Yoga

Tuesdays 19.30 - 21.00

With over 20 years experience as an Iyengar yoga teacher, I now combine traditional methods of alignment, posture  and breathwork with current thinking on somatics, energetics, mindfulness and resourcing inherant in CranioSacral biodynamics.  Through intelligent stretches and sequences you can safely arrive at a deeper understanding of your body and emotions, developing an awareness of how to release your natural potential and a sustainable feeling of  wellbeing and creativity.  I call my classes "biodynamic" to reflect this natural evolution in my approach.  Props are used to facilitate safe practice.

Lucinda Pimlott - Anusara Yoga, Mixed Ability

Wednesdays 18.00 - 19.30 and Saturdays 9.00 - 10.30

These classes are open to all levels, including beginners. Classes generally begin with a short meditation followed by a series of asanas or poses, some breathing exercises and relaxation at the end. The sessions vary from week to week and are fairly dynamic without being strenuous; you should feel energised and relaxed by the time you leave!

Lucinda studied various traditional yoga practices for a number of years before being introduced to the wonderfully inspiring Anusara yoga in 2004. Meaning "to follow your heart", Anusara is a uniquely integrated style of hatha yoga, which allows the student to explore her own creativity and illuminates the path to inner peace. Lucinda offers a wide range of classes for the whole community, including general yoga, yoga for pregnancy and classes at Cornwall's annual yoga event, the Surya Yoga Camp.

Emily Dymond - Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

Wednesdays 19.45 - 21.15

Ashtanga is a traditional form of Yoga with a deep emphasis on the breath. The breath and movement of the body are synchronised to produce deep internal heat which cleanses and detoxifies the body.  With regular practice the beautiful, dynamic flow of the series can have a deeply meditative effect. Giving equal strength and flexibility Ashtanga is a wonderfully rewarding practice that benefits body, mind and spirit. Absolute beginners are warmly welcomed to all classes, modifications will be given to allow each student to work to their own level.

Andrew and Jerusha Moon - Athayoga

Thursdays 18.00 - 19.30 and 19.45 - 21.15

'Athayoga' is the collaborative Yoga of Jerusha and Andrew Moon. Their teaching blends a wide range of Yoga influences with their own experiential interpretation of Hatha Yoga. They aim to create classes and workshops where playfulness, freedom of expression and stillness combine to provide a unique practice experience. They treat the body and mind as one and in so doing blend stretching, movement, breathing and awareness into a holistic Yoga that can be taken off the mat and into our lives.

As well as Thursday evening classes in the Zed Shed they run a range of other classes in Falmouth, Penryn and Budock Water, including pregnancy and mother and baby classes. Kyla Flegg - Physiotherapy-Yoga

Fridays 18.30 - 19.30

Classes are open to all levels, including beginners. Kyla combines her expert knowledge in Physiotherapy and physiology with Yoga to create a class to strengthen and stretch your whole body. Each class begins with a thorough warm up, breathing exercises and continues with a mix of hatha vinyassa physio flow yoga. It is a relaxed and friendly mixed class, with a lot of laughs and an easy atmosphere.

Kyla is a Chartered Physiotherapist working both in the NHS and privately at Jubilee Wharf, and so these classes are ideal for students with injuries or ailments which need a little special attention, or for people wanting to get into yoga in a non-threatening and safe environment. Come along a few minutes early and have a chat or get in touch if you would like any advice before hand.

Prices £30 for a 5 week block, or £7 drop in. Bring a sticky mat, & wear anything comfy & stretchy.

 Spice up your Sundays with morning yoga. Try this serotonin boosting routine to replace your weekend lie-in. Expect to leave feeling energised and balanced.
Sunday Yoga Flow is perfect for students of all levels. Lauren & Anna guide you through an hour and a half of mindful vinyasa, harmonising physical movements with breath. Yoga postures run in fluid sequence to create a moving meditation, helping you build strength, stamina and an awareness of the mind-body connection.

Each Sunday will be taught by either Anna or Lauren.

Alison Trewhela - Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs courses

Help yourself with this evidence-based, self-management, life-long, yoga tool-kit. Alison Trewhela is the original designer and trainer of the yoga programme ‘Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs' used in the University of York high-profile yoga research trial. This 'best practice' yoga programme, supported by Arthritis Research UK and available throughout the UK, has its roots in Cornwall. It consists of 12 weekly, small group, gentle classes that, along with handouts, a book and Relaxations CD, enable attendees gradually and progressively to learn how to improve their general and back health.

This is an ideal course for:

* beginners to yoga * those who have continual or episodic/recurring back pain looking for a long-term treatment option * those wishing to gradually get fitter, or condition their bodies after an injury, or those wishing to return to regular exercise or general yoga classes * those who want to be motivated and shown how to safely, effectively and appropriately practice at home with maturity and subtlety of understanding (including those with experience of yoga).

SWIYI - South West Iyengar Yoga Institute
